Weekend pictures

I finally found all of my Bonnie weekend pictures. I had to have dh transfer them from one computer to another. Seems I didn't get any on the Saturday workshop but did get some on Sunday and at the trunk show/lecture on Monday.

Bonnie was such a fun person to be with. I hope someday I will be able to attend another one of her classes. But until then I have memories and the start of two quilts.

These were the two women that I sat and sewed with. Renee on the left and Barb on the right.
I met Barb on the internet after she saw that I was attending that class. Barb had been chatting with Renee online for about three years and were surprised to learn they were both there for the weekend. We had a great time and everyone left as friends.

Here are some class shots. We had lots of room and good lighting.

I actually did find a Saturday class shot. This was during lunch. Bonnie is looking at a little bitty sewing machine. I wasn't close enough but I don't think it was real.

Can you see my block? Here's a hint; it stands out in the crowd.

On Monday dh and I went to a couple of museums

After coming home I stayed away from the sewing machine for days. Well mainly because I had to go back to work.  So on Presidents Day weekend I sewed from morning till midnight on Saturday and Sunday. This is how far I got on my spider quilt.  Monday I went in search of more fabric. I don't have enough of the yellow fabric to finish this quilt. I bought the fabric years ago for another quilt that didn't happen. I went to Joannes to see if I had bought it there. I told the clerk that they had it in red, blue and green. Did they have it in the yellowy orange? Of course not. I found some similar but it had a little more orange in it. Just figures. I am heading out this weekend to buy a new bed so I will hit up some fabric stores to see how close I can come.

After several days of non stop sewing  I was so proud of myself for getting so many triangles done. Then I assembled the blocks and my bubble burst. Only four blocks were done. Then suddenly it didn't seem so impressive.

Since I am at a stand still I will take this time to get going on Lazy Sunday. Which for me has been Lazy February.  Lots of cutting.

Sorry it has been so long since my last post in Atlanta.  It's taken me this long to sit down and transfer and shrink photos. Not to mention on the day we came home I got sick. So there went the rest of last week. Then it was back to work. And we all know how that can interfer with other plans.

On the third we worked on the scrappy spiderweb quilt. This was fun. I'm not sure how my picture created a mirror image on my table but I'm glad it did. I just couldn't believe that they called for lunch. being on Pacific time I wasn't ready. But took the break anyway.

The day just flew by and before we knew it it was time to pack it all up. I miss the ladies from that guild. Then we had a guild meeting the 4th.  I hear they have Bonnie coming back in 2017. Just may have to look into that trip.

On the 4th we played tourists. We went to the CNN for the behind the scenes tour. I tell you, the security there is tighter than at the airport. As we were walking down the halls if we came to an area that had more than one door to go through there was at least one big armed guard there to make sure you went through the correct door. As you can see this building is huge! The ground level is gift shops and the food court. All the news happens in the upper floors.

Then we went on to the World of Coke. Interesting. Who knew there were so many weird flavors put out by coke in the world.

When we were done we went on to Marietta to see a couple of museums. One was the Gone with The Wind memorabilia museum and the other was the Marietta history museum.

There was a crazy quilt made in the 1800's (I believe thats what the plaque said) in the history museum.
Anybody have any good guesses on my date? Don't hold me to that date.

The gone with the wind museum had a quilt as well. Looked store bought to me but who knows.
I'll let you decide.

After we finished up here we went across the street to an antique store.
Only one item came home with me on that trip. A Carnival glass pitcher that was made sometime between 1910-1914. Sorry no pictures of that.

I did however get a picture of a few quilts. They were very nice and very expensive. So I just took pictures and can enjoy them that way.

I just love the green and pink one on the bottom. But all of the quilts in the building were a lot over what I would spend. I just oohed and ahhed.
Once I get my other pictures shrunk down I will continue to play catch up on posting.

Fun in Atlanta

Today was spent sewing lots of sstrips for Scrappy Mountain Majesties. I had a great time. Here is a picture of Bonnie talking about placing the blocks in the barn raising layout.
My scrappy mountain quilt is in red and white so I think this layout will work best for me.  There were a lot of great colors and fabrics floating around the class today.
We had a bit of show and tell during lunch. One gal brought in a dresden plate quilt that she got for a whopping $3.

Another person brought in a quilt that she had finished.
This is just a wonderful quilt. I may have to have one of these in my future.

The guild members have been wonderful. If I were to ever move here I would join this guild. They have a lot of fun and are very welcoming.  After class I was invited to have dinner with guild members and Bonnie. Italian food. Oh so good. probably the best garlic knot rolls I have ever had. We had a great time visiting and eating good food. I am worn out. But I have the 3 hour time difference worked out.

Tomorrow is scrappy spiderweb quilt. I still have to cut down some paper for the stringy part but otherwise I am ready to get sewing.

Time to clean off the bed and climb in.

Another finish

I have been sailing along completing tops. So far this year I have finished Orca Bay, a quilt I sent to hurricane sandy survivors, one for a first responder for Newtown and now my BOM from last year.  And here is the picture of  the BOM.

I am so happy at the way it turned out.

Got such a deal

Yesterday I went to Joanne's as I had two gift cards from Christmas. I know so many don't like their fabric but you can get good fabric there if your looking for it. I made such a huge haul! I went in and loaded a shopping cart got my cuts made and still had left over money. So after lunch I went back and went through it again, checked out and still had money left. Score!! Turns out there was a big sale. Two fifty percent off coupons and a forty percent off coupon plus I had a 15% off total purchase coupon.

I am finishing up my BOM, getting the borders on it today and finished. Then I can begin Bonnie's new mystery in Quiltmaker magazine. If it ever gets here.

It's raining hard here today so it's a good sewing day. Four work days and I will be off to see Bonnie.

DH is cooking lunch. I am such a lucky wife. He will even do the dishes and his own laundry. Better get back to it.

BOM

I cut the last of the pieces for my bom from last year. I laid them out tonight and am preparing to stitch it together tomorrow in hopes of seeing it as a flimsy by this weekend. Here it is without the border. It's made in Christmas colors.  My table is too small for me to show it with the border on. I will post another picture when I get it to a top. Then maybe I will get it quilted and sent off to Newtown as well.

Tomorrow I will be shipping out the other quilt. Then I can get back to my Midnight flight challenge. I actually have a couple of rows put together on that one. I am making it a small quilt and not making another one. Too much of a challenge for me.

Bonnie Hunter posted a new mystery that will be coming out starting in the next issue of Quiltmaker magazine. Gonna have to look into my stash and give it a shot. I just wish my copy came in the mail sooner than it seems to hit the newsstands.

Another finish

Today was all about sewing down the binding on Cheerios. A quilt I made back in 2008 I think, as a group quilt with Red Thread Quilters yahoo group. I am going to send it off to first responders in Newtown Connecticut. Hopefully it will bring a little comfort to someone who needs it. As I looked at it I realized that this is my first scrappy quilt. And I like it.

Now that this is done, I will go back to working on my BOM. I just need to cut a few more pieces and then I can make it into a top.

Then I will be off to Alpharetta Georgia to work alongside Bonnie Hunter. Such a great anniversary gift from dh.
It was such a beautiful sunny  and extremely cold weekend. I am enjoying it as that means it isn't raining. But when it does it will just rain later into the year.
