Helping hand

I bought three different patterns of fleece years ago and put it in my stash cabinet. Today I finally came up with what I wanted to do with it. I am making fringed fleece blankets. It is fast and easy to do. When I am done with them I will add some toiletries and send them to Moore Oklahoma. One down two to go. But I might cut down the lady bug fleece and make two kids sized blankets.

I am still chugging away on my spiderweb quilt.  If I was really diligent I would have all of the blocks done in about four days.

Now that M has her awards ceremony at school tomorrow night and we were planning on heading east for the holiday weekend the hubster managed to get sick. For him it will last quite a while. Such timing. Hopefully he will keep it to himself! And if we don't head east I can get more sewing done.

Mystery solved

I took my machine to get a tune up and get the tension fixed. It is a Singer after thought. It is from Japan. But that's ok since it works great. Time to set her up and get stitching!

Mystery machine

On my new machine it says de luxe 1953 model made in Japan. I lifted it up and found the serial number. My biggest problem is I can't find anything on the internet about this machine. Is it so rare nothing is known about it?  I'm going to take it in tomorrow to get the tension fixed and the little loopy thing, yes that is technical talk, because it looks all bent out of shape. Of course I don't know what it was supposed to look like new but I bet it needs some work too.

Hopefully someone can tell me where to look for info on this fun machine.

Early Mother's Day gift and shopping

Last Saturday I took M to visit her brother after he got home from work. There is a big age gap between them. It was great to see him again and catch up on how he's doing. Went out for some dinner. But time passed to quickly and before we knew it we had to head home. I  would love to see more of him but he lives about 2 hours away and works a lot. It was a pre Mother's Day gift to all of us.

As we were killing time we made some shopping stops. We stopped in Lafayette Oregon at a former school house that has been turned into an antique mall. I was able to find a beautiful Fenten bell for my mother. So it was a good stop.

I also stopped in at the local Goodwill. There I found my latest acquisition of a sewing machine. I love the fact that the older work horse machines don't jump around the table and run away from you when you are sewing fast. There were two machines that I found interesting One of them came home with me.

One of them was a gold colored machine called a Golden _______something. But the wheel was dragging on it. Nice but I don't know the first thing about repair work and don't have a big budget for that.

The other one was what I am guessing is a Singer Supreme. Made in 1953 in Japan. Runs great and cleaned up wonderfully.

 

I really like the looks of the older machines. Hubby probably thinks I'm turning into a hoarder but I only have three machines and in my defense, I am thinking about selling one of them. Just don't need two light weight machines. I actually bought the other light weight to have when my sis comes over and we have a sewing/crafting day/weekend.

 

I haven't sewn a stitch on any of my projects all week. I find when I get home from work I want to sit in the peace and quiet of an almost empty house. Then I have to pick M up from my sister's place and the evening routine begins. Sadly I am starting to go to bed earlier as I get older. Just can't stay awake like I used to. Problem is I then wake up earlier than I need to. Who wants to wake up early when you have to go to work??

busy busy

Isn't it amazing how fast life flies by? I sent off three quilts to the long armer and expect to start getting them back in July as there was no rush on any of them.

Then there was the two hospital visits. One for my niece who fell 15 feet out of a tree and broke her wrist. She also knocked herself out. Hope she doesn't climb any trees anytime soon. Then my mom went to the hospital for surgery on her neck.  Then I somehow manage to fall off a curb. Such talent huh?

Going to do a little bit of antiquing before going to visit number one son tomorrow. His wife is in Greece for the month as part of a school field trip. Wish I had those kind of trips when I was in school!

We have lucked out in the weather department this year. No flooding and have had some very hot summer like weather lately.

I let M help with my spider quilt last weekend. At first I just let her take the fabric and sew it together. But when I saw the interesting stitch line we decided to let me guide the fabric through the needle and she could run the foot pedal. She was so excited at the thought of "quilting".  I was using my 60's White machine and for some reason it starts out at a good speed and then slows down.  Need to take it in and have it serviced.
