Another finish

I have been sailing along completing tops. So far this year I have finished Orca Bay, a quilt I sent to hurricane sandy survivors, one for a first responder for Newtown and now my BOM from last year.  And here is the picture of  the BOM.

I am so happy at the way it turned out.

Got such a deal

Yesterday I went to Joanne's as I had two gift cards from Christmas. I know so many don't like their fabric but you can get good fabric there if your looking for it. I made such a huge haul! I went in and loaded a shopping cart got my cuts made and still had left over money. So after lunch I went back and went through it again, checked out and still had money left. Score!! Turns out there was a big sale. Two fifty percent off coupons and a forty percent off coupon plus I had a 15% off total purchase coupon.

I am finishing up my BOM, getting the borders on it today and finished. Then I can begin Bonnie's new mystery in Quiltmaker magazine. If it ever gets here.

It's raining hard here today so it's a good sewing day. Four work days and I will be off to see Bonnie.

DH is cooking lunch. I am such a lucky wife. He will even do the dishes and his own laundry. Better get back to it.

BOM

I cut the last of the pieces for my bom from last year. I laid them out tonight and am preparing to stitch it together tomorrow in hopes of seeing it as a flimsy by this weekend. Here it is without the border. It's made in Christmas colors.  My table is too small for me to show it with the border on. I will post another picture when I get it to a top. Then maybe I will get it quilted and sent off to Newtown as well.

Tomorrow I will be shipping out the other quilt. Then I can get back to my Midnight flight challenge. I actually have a couple of rows put together on that one. I am making it a small quilt and not making another one. Too much of a challenge for me.

Bonnie Hunter posted a new mystery that will be coming out starting in the next issue of Quiltmaker magazine. Gonna have to look into my stash and give it a shot. I just wish my copy came in the mail sooner than it seems to hit the newsstands.

Another finish

Today was all about sewing down the binding on Cheerios. A quilt I made back in 2008 I think, as a group quilt with Red Thread Quilters yahoo group. I am going to send it off to first responders in Newtown Connecticut. Hopefully it will bring a little comfort to someone who needs it. As I looked at it I realized that this is my first scrappy quilt. And I like it.

Now that this is done, I will go back to working on my BOM. I just need to cut a few more pieces and then I can make it into a top.

Then I will be off to Alpharetta Georgia to work alongside Bonnie Hunter. Such a great anniversary gift from dh.
It was such a beautiful sunny  and extremely cold weekend. I am enjoying it as that means it isn't raining. But when it does it will just rain later into the year.

MIxed news

My doctor is happy overall with my treatment plan. I've gone from 2-3 headaches a week to only having had 3 in the last month. But blood tests showed I have a few deficiencies. Her recommend for anemia, eat red meat 2 times per week. I chose to quit eating beef when I noticed it didn't have much flavor. How is it possible to take the flavor out of beef?? Don't know but I seem to be able to buy the meat with the least amount of flavor possible. So that and a couple of supplements and hopefully I will be back to normal. Or close to it.

I dropped my machine off at a repair shop today on my way to the doctor appointment. I wanted it ready for my February trip to Georgia for Bonnie's classes near Atlanta. Seems I had the wrong style of bobbin in it and that messed up the whole area causing it to malfunction and refuse to backstitch.
I was able to pick it up on my way home. I thought I would have to wait for at least a couple of days to get it back. I will definitely use that shop again.

We saw some snow on the drive over the hill to Portland. It was really pretty to look at but the road near the summit got a little slippery. That's why dh did the driving. Poor guy, after working all night he stayed up to drive me to the dr.  Here is a couple of pictures I took. The first one is about 24 miles away from home and the other is at the summit of the coast range.

The blue sky didn't last long. Once we got over the summit the only thing we saw was lots of clouds.
And now its back to raining. The price of living at the Oregon coast.

getting scraps together

I found out today that I am able to get into the Scrappy Mountains Majesties class in Alpharetta GA next month. Yay!  Now I get to dig thru my stash and see what I have for that and the scrappy spiderweb string or whatever Bonnie calls it.

Tomorrow I head back to my headache doctor to update her on how well things are going. As luck would have it the snow level is supposed to drop to 1,000 ft. the pass that I have to cross over is 1,600 something. After a spin, quite literally, when ds was a baby in the car with me, and coming to rest on the guard rail I decided I hate driving in snow and ice. It's been sorta warm and clear here the last few days so I guess it had to happen.

So its off to bed early tonight so I can brave the 1 1/2 hour drive to the clinic first thing in the morning.

Mozilla to the rescue for Easy Street

With the problems getting pictures uploaded I took the advise that was given on Quiltville Chat and downloaded Mozilla Foxfire. Easy download and it is going to let me upload a photo.

With that, I was able to finish my Easy Street last night and get it photographed. I'm not sure about a border though.  Something I have to think about. Due to the time of day and lack of sunlight my picture is a little dark but the colors in this quilt are quite bold. At least I think they are.

The small squares in this are actually a dark marbled green. I might even have enough of it left over to use as the backing. Then if I could get so lucky to have any left I might use some for the binding. So I just may not have to buy any fabric for any part of this quilt. Just the batting.

I am considering making another one and changing the setting. This one had the blocks on point and someone chose to not do that. It looked good that way too. Wish I could remember who that was.

Coming together

I finally have all of the blocks assembled. Yay. I layed it out on my cutting table on a small setting to see how it looks. I am so happy with the look of this quilt. Bold colors and an easy pattern.

As soon as blogger figures out what their pronlem is I will post photos.

Almost there

I finished step 7. Completely. I sure am liking the colors I chose for this quilt.
It is so bright and cheery. This is one of the first times I have used brights. Ok bright for me.
Now to put it all together.

It was so hard to get up and off to work today after having a week off. But I managed.

I have another quilt pinned and am preparing to quilt it and once finished I will send it off to the first responders in Newtown.  I hope it will bring some comfort to a responder.
Here it is as a flimsy. I have been hanging onto it just waiting for a home to send it to.
